Architected for Data Security

Coefficient sits on top of your data source systems. When the Coefficient application pulls data from your source systems into your spreadsheets, our servers make live API calls to your cloud data sources (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, Looker) or perform live queries directly against your data warehouses and databases (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, MySQL).

Data imports using our Data Connectors are never stored on our servers. Cloud Datasets require storage - this feature is opt-in only and can be turned off using Admin Controls (more on Cloud Datasets here).

In our internal data stores, we persist only the necessary metadata about your source systems, allowing our servers to issue API requests and database queries on your behalf. While a Coefficient import is being run, our servers might temporarily cache the data you requested, but only for as long as it is required to complete the desired operation.

Cloud Infrastructure

Coefficient's backend infrastructure is hosted on AWS, a cloud provider with robust cloud security standards. We build on top of these proven standards, adopting additional security best practices where appropriate to protect customer data and prevent unauthorized access to our systems.

Application Security

The technologies powering Coefficient are built with security as the guiding principle. The user interface of the Coefficient application is an extension of your spreadsheet platform of choice: Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel.

Coefficient Google Sheets Add-On

The Coefficient Google Sheets Add-on can be installed from the Google Workspace Marketplace. As a Google Workspace Add-on, the Coefficient Google Sheets Add-on is hosted on Google's Apps Script servers. The Coefficient Add-on communicates with our backend systems by making API calls from Google Apps Script and standard in-browser JavaScript. All API endpoints are HTTPS-only (TLS 1.2+) to ensure that data in transit is encrypted end-to-end.

Coefficient Add-in for Microsoft Excel

The Coefficient Add-in for Microsoft Excel can be installed from Microsoft App Source and works with the web, Windows, and macOS versions of Microsoft Excel. The Coefficient Add-in communicates with our backend systems by making API calls over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+), ensuring that data in transit is encrypted end-to-end.

Authentication

Users of the Coefficient Google Sheets Add-on sign in to Coefficient using Google Workspace OAuth. Similarly, users of the Coefficient Add-in for Microsoft Excel sign in to Coefficient using Microsoft 365 Single Sign-on (SSO). Both spreadsheet platforms' authentication and authorization flows are based on the industry-standard OAuth 2.0 protocol.
The Coefficient application authenticates to our server API endpoints using cryptographically signed OAuth tokens issued by either Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. This authentication scheme allows us to identify and authenticate a user without the user having to create—or our systems having to store—a username/password specific to Coefficient.
A user’s access to the Coefficient application is automatically revoked when the user’s Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 account is suspended, deactivated, or deleted.
