Connecting to Jira

When you begin a Jira import for the first time, you will be prompted to connect your Jira instance to Coefficient.

1. Open the Coefficient Sidebar and click the Menu.

2. Select “Connected Sources”. 

3. Select “Add Connection” at the bottom and then “Connect” to Jira.

4. "Authorize" your connection.

5. Log in to your Jira account.

6. Allow access to Coefficient by clicking "Accept". Now you are connected to Jira! 🪄

Imports from Jira

There are three ways to import data from Jira using Coefficient: Start from Scratch, From Saved Filters, and Custom JQL Query.

Start from Scratch

The "Start from Scratch" option allows you to create imports effortlessly without having to write SQL.

1. Open the Coefficient Sidebar and click the “Import from…” button.

2. Select “Jira” from the list.

3. Select “Start from Scratch”.

5. Select/deselect the desired fields on the left side of the Import Preview window. By default, the preview will automatically update to show the first 50 rows. You can also rearrange columns by dragging the headers and applying filters or sorts. When you're finished, click "Import."Screenshot 2024-10-02 at 5.57.23 AM.png

Imports from Saved Filters

The "From Saved Filters" option lets you import a pre-configured filtered view from Jira directly into your spreadsheet using Coefficient.

1. Open the Coefficient Sidebar and click the “Import from…” button.

2. Select “Jira” from the list.

3. Select “From Saved Filters”.

4. In the Import Preview window, select the Saved Filter you wish to import from, then click "Next".Screenshot 2024-10-02 at 6.11.36 AM.png

5. Select/Unselect the fields you need for your import on the left side of the Import Preview window. The data preview section updates as you change your settings (the first 50 rows of data are shown). You can drag and drop column headers to change their order in your import. Imports from Custom JQL Query

Using a Custom JQL Query gives you additional flexibility in the data you import into Coefficient.

1. Open the Coefficient Sidebar and click the “Import from…” button.

3. Select “Custom JQL Query”.

FAQs for Jira

When I import multi-select fields from Jira (such as Sprint or Comments), the data appears as JSON values rather than readable text. How can I separate these values?

Now, you can separate values with our Nested JSON Field Expansion feature. This lets you expand and flatten nested JSON fields within your Coefficient imports, allowing you to display the data in a single cell as a comma-separated list or split across multiple rows for more accessible analysis.
