Coefficient’s Append Imports feature allows you to refresh your data by adding new rows to the end of your existing dataset without overwriting the old data. This is perfect for managing growing datasets, as it lets you retain previous entries while smoothly incorporating new ones.
*This feature is currently supported on Google Sheets only*
FAQs for the Append Imports feature
Append New Data on an Import
Example: We will use an existing import ("QuickBooks Invoice") to walk you through this feature in Coefficient.
1. From the Coefficient sidebar, select your import (Quickbooks Invoice). |
2. Navigate to Advanced Settings and check the box to enable "Append new data." Then click Save & Run/Run your import. |
3. When your import run is completed, a new column (Written by Coefficient At) will appear on the right of the import range. The values in this column will provide a date/time stamp of when this record was imported/updated in your sheet. New data will now append to the bottom of your import and no longer overwrite the existing data.
FAQs for the Append Imports feature
What will happen if I add/remove a field from my import?
When you modify the fields in your import with this feature enabled, new data will still be appended at the bottom. However, any removed field will be shifted to the right. The column will remain, but since the field no longer applies to the appended data, its values will remain blank for the new entries while retaining the old data.
Example: The ID field was removed in the import below, leaving it blank for the appended data. However, the "Written By Coefficient At" field still displays the date when the data was added.
What will happen to my import if the 'Append new data' setting is disabled (the box is unchecked)?
When this setting is turned off, and your import is refreshed, the Written by Coefficient At column will be removed from the sheet and appear as a standard import.
What happens if I add a filter to my import with "Append new data" enabled?
If you add filter(s) to your import and no results fit the new filter criteria, no new data will be added to your import/sheet. A warning message will appear in the sidebar, letting you know the data is unchanged. You may need to adjust your filters and try again. |
Are there any limitations with Coefficient's Append new data feature?
Coefficient does not support pivot mode on Append new data imports.
I modified the filters in my source report, but my import isn’t updating. How do I fix this?
If your import isn’t reflecting changes to the filters in your source report, it may be because the Append Import option is turned on. When enabled, this setting adds new data to the bottom of the existing import, which can prevent the filters from applying properly.
To fix this:
- Open the Coefficient sidebar.
- Edit your import and uncheck the Append Import option.
- Refresh the import.
If the issue persists after making these changes, please contact support (support@coefficient.io) for further assistance.
