Send Test
The "Send Test" option lets you send a test alert to your designated channel — a great way to fine-tune your alert before sending it to your team.
ℹ️ PRO TIP: Send test alerts to yourself while you're adjusting the configuration, then switch to the larger audience once you're done. (No one likes Slack spam.) 😅
- Within the Alert Preview window, click "Send Test" in the top-right corner to see how the alert appears when triggered.
| 2. Enter your recipient's email address or Slack name/channel, then click "Send Test." |
3. You will then receive an email or Slack message showing how your alert will appear when triggered.

Variables
"Variables" are also available when creating an alert. They allow you to reference values from a specific column, so you can route alerts to particular individuals based on their designated rows in the spreadsheet — just make sure their email addresses or Slack channels are included in that column. Variables can also be used to dynamically customize your alert's subject or content.
ℹ️ NOTE: Variables are only supported when sending separate alerts to specific users based on a data change. You can apply them to Slack recipients, email recipients, and the message body, including content inside the card block.
| Slack Recipients: Variables let you send an alert to each recipient based on values from a specific column. |
| Email Recipients: Variables can be used to email each recipient based on values from a specific column. |
|
Message Body: Variables can be used to mention or tag specific users in your alert's message body. ℹ️ NOTE: Enclose your variable text in double curly brackets ({{ }}) so it's identified correctly. |
Example (Google Sheets): The alert notifies the Deal Owner via email when a deal assigned to them moves to "Closed Won" status and the "Amount" column exceeds $50K. (Column H contains the owner's email address.)
|
1. Open the Coefficient sidebar and select "Slack/Email Alert". |
2. Select "AI Alerts." |
3. Enter your prompt and describe how you want to be alerted based on your sheet's data (e.g., "Alert the deal owner via email when their assigned deal moves to 'Closed Won' and the Amount exceeds $50K.").
4. Wait for the Alerts Agent to analyze the data on your sheet. It will present the alert's trigger, content, and presentation. If you're satisfied with the agent's suggestions, click "Design Your Alert." |
5. The Alerts Agent provides a sample design layout in the preview window. You can ask the agent to make further adjustments, or click "Save & Exit" if you're satisfied.
ℹ️ NOTE: When referencing a specific column from your sheet, enclose it in double curly brackets ({{ }}) so it's identified as a variable.
|
6. Select where you want to receive the alert notification (ie, Email, Teams, or Slack). |
7. Since we want the alert to be dynamic and notify only the Deal Owner via email, click the variable button and enter the column where the email addresses are stored (e.g., column H). |
|
8. Click "Add Destination" if you want the alert sent to multiple channels (e.g., Slack or Teams) as needed. Then click "Next" to proceed. |
9. Choose how often you want your Slack and email alerts to run by selecting one of the following schedules:
Once you've configured the schedule, click "Save & Schedule." |
10. Congratulations, your smart alert is now created! It will be delivered to the designated recipients once the conditions are met. 🎉

FAQs for the Alerts Agent
Can I preview an alert before it goes live?
Yes. Before the alert is activated, the agent generates a sample infographic and text based on your current data. You can iterate on the preview as many times as you'd like before saving it.
|
Can I edit an alert after it's been created? Yes! Click "Edit Alert" in the sidebar to update any part of the configuration via chat. |
Will a change-triggered alert fire if I manually edit my spreadsheet?
No. Change detection is tied to Coefficient import refreshes, not arbitrary in-sheet edits.
|
Why didn't my alert fire even though the data changed? The AI evaluates whether the change is meaningful relative to your trigger condition — small or routine fluctuations may not clear the threshold. Check your alert's run history to see the reasoning behind any "not fired" decision (see the screenshot on the right). |
Where can alerts be delivered?
Email, Slack, and Microsoft Teams — you can add multiple destinations.
Can I send alerts to different people based on values in my spreadsheet?
Yes. Dynamic recipients let you point to a column in your sheet, and the alert reads recipient addresses at runtime. Click here to learn more about variables and how to use them for dynamic recipients.
What does an alert notification look like?
An AI-generated infographic with a headline, key bullets, and a summary paragraph — not a raw data dump. The visual is created fresh each time the alert fires.
What happens if the AI can't generate the infographic?
The alert won't be sent. The infographic is the core deliverable, so we don't provide a text-only fallback. Check your run history or contact support@coefficient.io to see whether a run failed because of infographic generation.
Is this available on Google Sheets and Excel?
Yes, this feature is currently available for both our Google Sheets and Excel extensions.
I am trying to set up a new alert from my Excel sheet, but I don't see the option for "Monitor." How can I proceed?
Right now, the "Monitor" option is only available in the web version of Excel; it isn't supported in the Excel desktop application. Upload your Excel sheet to your cloud drive (OneDrive/SharePoint), then access it online to use the "Monitor" feature.
How is this different from Classic (Coefficient Core) Alerts?
Classic Alerts use a form-based rule builder, while Alerts Agent is configured through the alert's chat agent. They run on separate systems, and existing Classic Alerts should continue to work as before.
Where can I see the history of past alert runs?
|
The run history is available in the Coefficient web app Dashboard. Each entry shows the trigger decision, generated content, and delivery status per channel. To access it, click the three-dot menu next to your alert and select "View Run History." |
